The beneficial properties of silk for skin health have been studied and documented by dermatologists over many years. In a 1987 paper titled "Sleep Creases," California-based dermatologist Dr. Samuel J. Stegman observed that sleep position can cause diagonal and vertical lines to form on the face, and that these creases can deepen and become more permanent with age. Board-certified New York dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross has also commented on the subject, noting that sleeping on a pillow puts repeated pressure on the skin overnight, and that higher-friction fabrics like cotton can make that effect worse.
Consumers can reduce this impact by switching to a silk pillowcase. Silk is considerably smoother than cotton, which Mayfairsilk says lowers mechanical friction and the skin irritation associated with it. The pillowcases are available in UK Standard (US Queen) size in both classic envelope and Oxford styles, and range in design from solid colours, including Midnight Blue, Teal Breeze, and Champagne, to patterned options such as the brand's Iridescent Garden and Hummingbird prints. Each pillowcase features the company's signature matte finish for added softness and durability.
