HRT University Launches Accredited GLP-1 Course to Teach Clinicians to Treat the Patient, Not the Scale

Oct 5, 2026

According to Gallup, GLP-1 use for weight loss has nearly quadrupled since 2024, but for some patients the scale moves while they feel exhausted, lose hair, and lose strength.

Cincinnati, Ohio, October 5, 2026 -- HRT University has launched GLP-1 Optimization, a new accredited course that teaches clinicians to treat the patient, not the scale. The scale says the medication is working. The patient says she is tired, her hair is thinning, and she feels weaker than when she started. Taught by Nico Misleh, MSN, FNP-C, it arrives as 11% of U.S. adults take a GLP-1 for weight loss, up from 3% in 2024, according to Gallup. Available now, it carries 6 CE credits for prescribing clinicians.

"GLP-1s are not just a gut hormone. They're really a systemic hormone," said Nico Misleh, MSN, FNP-C, founder of HRT University. "You gotta understand the climate first before you start messing with the weather." In the course, the climate is the patient's hormonal foundation: thyroid, sex hormones, and gut health.

That foundation explains much of how patients feel. With untreated hypothyroidism or low sex hormones, a GLP-1 still produces weight loss, but more of it comes from muscle. Clinicians learn to check thyroid and iron before blaming the drug for fatigue, to prepare patients for hair shedding after rapid weight loss, and to prevent most nausea with slow titration. It also covers benefits beyond weight, such as heart and kidney protection, and teaches investigational retatrutide as pharmacology only. The seven-module curriculum is at the GLP-1 course.

Stopping is part of the patient experience too. A JAMA Network Open study of more than 125,000 adults found most stopped their GLP-1 within a year. A Cleveland Clinic study of nearly 8,000 adults who stopped found many "restart the medication or transition to another obesity treatment," according to Hamlet Gasoyan, PhD, lead researcher at Cleveland Clinic's Center for Value-Based Care Research. The course sets a maintenance and regain plan before the first injection.

GLP-1 Optimization is built around patient physiology and the hormonal foundation.

How The Clifford Clinic approaches Hifu skin lifting for a more defined face and jawline

[The content of this article has been produced by our advertising partner.] A softer jawline or the first signs of jowling can prompt a deceptively simple question: can the face look firmer without surgery? The answer starts with understanding what has changed, rather than choosing a treatment by name. For people with mild to moderate skin laxity, high-intensity focused ultrasound, or Hifu, is one non-surgical face-lifting option. It delivers focused energy beneath the skin to encourage tissue...

Sri Lankan writer Nifraz Rifaz’s debut novel confronts Islamophobia after Easter bombings

On September 22, after a five-year trial, 15 men from Sri Lanka’s minority Muslim community were convicted and sentenced to 200 to 260 years in prison each for their involvement in the 2019 Easter bombings. The coordinated suicide attacks on luxury hotels and Christian places of worship on April 21, 2019, remain one of the deadliest terror incidents in the island nation’s history, claiming more than 250 lives. While the devastation and subsequent investigations were covered widely in the global...

With Michelin’s Green Star gone, Hong Kong seeks to redefine sustainable dining

David Toutain witnessed the birth of the Michelin Green Star in 2020. His eponymous restaurant in Paris was among the first to be awarded while Feuille, his Hong Kong outpost, secured one within a year of its 2023 opening. But even when Michelin quietly retired the award this year, he still never understood exactly how it was assessed. “I have no idea,” he says. “I don’t know the rules. I don’t know anything about it, to be very honest.” His confusion points to a larger problem. The Green Star...

‘Hong Kong would be impossible.’ Why the newest Fotografiska photo museum is in Shenzhen

Contemporary photography museum Fotografiska’s newest outpost in Shenzhen is strikingly different from its original venue in Stockholm, Sweden – in the former customs building on the Stadsgardshamnen waterfront – or its Shanghai location, which opened in 2023 inside the Guang San Warehouse. In Shenzhen, a technological metropolis where sleek high-rises and futuristic cultural venues continue to emerge, the museum integrates into the modern urban landscape with a crisp white rectangular facade...
