Integrating Brand Thinking Into Business Planning: Brand Strategy Guide Released

Oct 29, 2026

International creative agency London : Los Angeles (LO:LA) has released a new guide, The Brief Arrived Too Late, which argues that a brand should be considered before a product, price, or offer is finalized, rather than once the marketing brief is written.

El Segundo, United States, October 29, 2026 /PressCable/ -- International brand and creative agency LO:LA has published The Brief Arrived Too Late, a new guide examining when brand strategy should enter the business planning process. Released on October 21, 2026, the guide focuses on what happens when agencies receive a marketing brief only after an offer's structure, pricing, and target audience have already been fixed.

More details can be found at https://thelolaagency.com/the-brief-arrived-too-late/

The guide is aimed at founders, executives, and product teams responsible for shaping new offers. According to LO:LA, many businesses decide what they are selling, who it is for, what it costs, and how it reaches customers before an agency is involved, leaving creative work to compensate for issues that sit within the offer itself.

To illustrate the point, the guide outlines a hypothetical membership service marketed on flexibility, despite carrying a long minimum term, a complicated cancellation process, and benefits concentrated at the highest tier. The agency states that a campaign can clarify such an offer, but it cannot resolve the contradiction at its core.

Rather than handing product development to an agency, the guide calls for brand thinking to sit alongside technical, financial, and delivery expertise at the planning stage. LO:LA says the approach is intended to test assumptions while an offer can still change, with the aim of identifying clearer pricing, stronger service structures, or overlooked features.

“Too often, the brief arrives once the substance of an offer has already been decided,” a LO:LA spokesperson said. “Creative work can do a great deal, but it cannot repair a contradiction built into the offer itself. Bringing brand in earlier gives a business the chance to address those issues while it still has real choices.”

The guide is organized into four sections: The Moment Before Marketing, Earlier Means More Useful, The Cost of a Fixed Answer, and A Better First Brief. The final two address why businesses often delay brand conversations and propose an alternative starting brief built around the audience, the problem, the company's strengths, and its constraints.

About LO:LA

LO:LA operates from offices in El Segundo, California, and Mayfair, London, working across brand strategy, identity, and creative production. The agency's recent projects include the launch of El Segundo Creates, a civic creative initiative, and work for Know Wellness that received an Award of Excellence at the 32nd Annual Communicator Awards earlier this year.

Eh, could Canada be the next big wine country? Find out at Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival

“We’re in the golden age of Canadian wines,” legendary wine writer Tony Aspler tells me confidently. We are at an intimate showcase of the stuff at the Canadian consulate in Hong Kong’s Quarry Bay neighbourhood, where representatives of nine wineries have gathered to prove that the true north has more than ice wine to offer. As a wine drinker with no particular bias – I will happily quaff a funky Austrian pét-nat (sparkling wine) as much as a fine Burgundy – it was natural for me to enter with...
