Burlingame, United States, September 17, 2026 -- Student Medicover is a strong option for international students in the United States who want UHC PPO access, meaningful choices in medical and prescription cost sharing, and help using their coverage. For eligible students whose schools accept the selected outside plan, the four 2026–2027 options include zero-deductible choices, different prescription payment structures, and benefits for covered in-network preventive care.
The comparisons here concern the 2026–2027 Certificates of Coverage for the UHC Choice Plus PPO versions of Supreme, Elite, Prime 100 and Prime 500. State-specific versions and other Student Medicover products have separate terms. Within these four plans, the network is shared, but the benefits and amounts students pay differ.
Student Medicover is an insurance agency and student-support partner, with a long-standing partnership with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR). It helps students select and use coverage; applicable claims administration and member-account functions operate through UHCSR. Its current plan overview describes help with benefits, finding providers and billing questions.
A choice for students who want less deductible exposure
A student who wants no general in-network deductible can start with Supreme or Elite. Both specify a $0 individual deductible per policy year and a general 90% plan share for covered in-network medical expenses, except where a benefit states otherwise. Prime 100 lists a $100 deductible and Prime 500 a $500 deductible, with a general 80% plan share for each. These terms appear on PDF page 22 of the four certificates.
The 2026–2027 Certificate Index provides the complete documents and plan identifiers.
These figures answer different questions. The deductible concerns the amount a student must meet where that deductible applies. The percentage describes the plan's share of covered expenses, based on the Allowed Amount—the contracted in-network fee—rather than the student's share. A $0 deductible does not remove copays or coinsurance, and a lower deductible alone does not establish a lower overall cost once premiums and actual care are considered.
There are useful service-level differences, too. Prime 100's outpatient physician-visit benefit on PDF page 23 lists a $25 copay and an 80% plan share of the Allowed Amount, without applying the deductible to that benefit. For a student comparing office-visit coverage, that exception matters: the annual deductible is not a complete description of how the plan works. The copay should not be treated as a quote for the entire appointment.
A clearer prescription choice for recurring needs
For students who take a covered medication regularly, the pharmacy benefit can be as important as the medical deductible. Supreme and Elite illustrate why two zero-deductible plans deserve separate consideration.
The retail pharmacy benefits on PDF page 24 of the Supreme and Elite certificates show two different payment structures. At a UnitedHealthcare Pharmacy (UHCP) retail network pharmacy, Supreme's scheduled member copays are $15 for Tier 1, $30 for Tier 2 and $50 for Tier 3, for up to a 31-day supply per prescription. Elite's corresponding benefit uses a $15 Tier 1 copay, but member coinsurance of 30% for Tier 2 and 50% for Tier 3.
Supreme therefore deserves particular attention from students who value a fixed scheduled copay for covered higher-tier prescriptions. That structure gives them a defined dollar amount to compare with a percentage-based contribution. It does not establish which plan will be cheaper for a particular drug or over the year. The medication's current coverage, tier, supply limits and any authorization requirements still determine how the pharmacy benefit applies.
The practical comparison starts with the medication a student actually expects to fill. A broad statement that a plan includes prescriptions leaves out the difference between a fixed copay and a percentage that depends on the applicable drug charge.
Preventive care belongs in the decision
Students planning routine care also have a reason to consider Student Medicover. All four Choice Plus plans' benefit schedules, on PDF page 25, provide covered preventive services from Preferred Providers at 100% of the Allowed Amount, without a deductible, copay or coinsurance. This is a shared benefit, including in the two Prime plans.
The preventive-care definition on PDF page 10 limits that benefit to qualifying services under the plan's preventive guidelines.
Because this benefit is shared, students can focus their comparison on prescription cost sharing, visit charges and the other benefits they expect to use.
Convenient access beyond a benefit summary
The selected benefits also need to work where students receive care. Student Medicover's doctor-search page provides separate network routes for finding nearby providers, and its multilingual team offers help with benefit and billing questions. Students can confirm a practice's current participation before arranging care. The brand's profile in the NAFSA Global Partner Marketplace describes international-student plans with UHC PPO access and claims support.
For students who value these combinations, Student Medicover merits a place on the recommendation shortlist. Supreme and Elite offer a starting point for a $0 general in-network deductible; Supreme adds fixed scheduled higher-tier retail prescription copays; and the Prime plans offer different medical cost-sharing choices while retaining covered in-network preventive benefits. The strongest choice is the specific plan that fits the student's prescriptions, local providers, current premium and school requirements—not a brand name considered in isolation.

Over the last decade, egg freezing has become significantly more popular. According to data from the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS), there were 2,663 retrieval cycles for the purpose of freezing, or banking, eggs reported in 2025. Compare that number to 2013, when there were only 217 such procedures logged.
