Lehi, Utah Sep 25, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - The feature documentary previously known as Saving Baby Cyrus has officially been retitled GIVE HIM BACK as the filmmakers prepare for the film's release and a private theatrical screening October 8 at Megaplex Theatres at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah.
Produced by Spotlight Documentary in association with Sacred Honor Media, GIVE HIM BACK examines the controversial 2022 removal of 10-month-old Cyrus Anderson from his parents in Idaho and the extraordinary public confrontation that followed.
The film is directed and produced by Justin Griffin, with award-winning filmmaker Steve Rey Sorensen serving as the filmmaker.
The project first gained attention under its original title, Saving Baby Cyrus, when an early presentation of the documentary was submitted to the Angel Guild, the audience-driven evaluation system operated by Angel Studios.
The project received Guild Approved status with a final Guild score of 85, reaching a final decision within two days of its submission.
Viewer-retention data provided through the Angel Guild dashboard also showed the film maintaining audience retention substantially above the comparison range displayed for other Guild Approved submissions throughout the presentation.
Following the Guild response and the continued development of the feature-length documentary, the filmmakers ultimately selected GIVE HIM BACK as the film's final title.
The title comes directly from the events at the center of the story.
In March 2022, the removal of Cyrus Anderson from his family prompted an escalating public response in Idaho. Protesters gathered outside St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center demanding that the child be returned to his parents.
Their demand was simple:
"Give him back."
The documentary reconstructs the events surrounding Cyrus's removal and eventual return through interviews, contemporaneous footage, police body-camera video, recordings and other source material.
At the center of the story are Cyrus's parents, Marissa and Levi Anderson, alongside activist Ammon Bundy and others whose involvement transformed what began as a dispute involving one Idaho family into a story that attracted national attention.
Rather than relying solely on retrospective interviews, GIVE HIM BACK places audiences inside the events as they unfolded, using original footage and documentation alongside firsthand accounts from those involved.
After more than two years of production, GIVE HIM BACK has been completed and is now preparing for release.
A new official trailer will be released soon, introducing audiences to the completed film under its new title.
The filmmakers are currently in discussions regarding additional theatrical screenings and streaming distribution agreements, with the film expected to begin its wider rollout in October or November 2026. Specific screening dates, platforms and distribution details will be announced as agreements are finalized.
