The new collaboration brings the first automated system of its kind to the North American market.
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, October 9, 2026 -- THG Automation, a leader in robotic welding and automation integration, has developed the first cobot-automated Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) twin-wire welding solution.
This system, built in collaboration with Fronius and Universal Robots, is the first automated system of this kind in North America and only one of a few similar systems in the world. The new system was installed at a customer facility in August.

Targeted primarily for structural engineering and heavy industry fabrication, this system syncs two Fronius TPS/i power sources and wire feeding units to simultaneously feed a twin-drive CMT push-pull torch. The twin-wire cobot welder consistently delivers deposition rates as high as 25kg/h.
“We’re continually breaking barriers, showing what is possible with a cobot,” said THG Automation Co-founder and CEO Matt Hendey. “With Fronius Twin Wire, customers can achieve submerged arc deposition rates with the ease of use of a cobot without the limitations of sub-arc. Cladding, hard facing, WAAM, high deposition rates, and high welding travel speeds are now possible on a portable and easy-to-use platform.”
The newest addition to THG’s line of collaborative robotic welding systems is compatible with the advanced welding features built into THG solutions and can be integrated with our extensive line of tables, platforms and external positioners and axes.
THG Automation specializes in the design and assembly of collaborative robotic (cobot) welding systems. From independent fabricators to global aerospace leaders, THG provides mobile, modular and intuitive automation solutions designed to enhance production efficiency and scalability.

The last basket of dim sum is sold, the roller shutter comes down, and another Cantonese restaurant in Hong Kong closes. Nine months into 2026, this scene has already played out at least 30 times. The causes are familiar – sky-high rents, thin margins, rising costs, and dining habits reshaped by the pandemic years. Legislative Council figures show that between 2018 and 2025, the number of Cantonese restaurants and banquet halls in Hong Kong fell from 1,790 to 1,500, representing a 16 per cent...
At Shenzhen’s The Bay by Chef Fei, a dish of fish simmered with bamboo shoots in plum juice and pickled vegetables is plated individually and served to diners one by one. At Chiu Tang in Hong Kong, diners sit at round tables, share stories, sip oolong tea and reach for morsels from communal dishes. As Chaoshan cuisine, traditionally rooted in coastal neighbourhoods and late-night street food stalls, moves into luxury restaurants and is reimagined through French-style tasting menus and...
At first glance, the peach-shaped box with coral inlay appears to be carved from red lacquer. But the piece – made specifically to celebrate the birthday of the Yongzheng Emperor (1678-1735) – is, in fact, a gold-bodied box with a surface overlaid with red coral. Each fragment of the vivid gemstone is cut and set so precisely that the joins almost disappear, creating a shimmering mottled crimson skin. It is a deliberate exercise in restraint, executed entirely in one medium and, unusually for an...
Demna’s highly awaited fall/winter 2026 runway debut for Gucci was unveiled at the Palazzo delle Scintille in Milan in February, attracting A-list celebrities ranging from Demi Moore and Shawn Mendes, to sisters Paris and Nicky Hilton. While the collection featured nods to the house’s provocative 90s era, when designer Tom Ford was at the helm, it also introduced key new silhouettes and innovative pairings, combining Demna’s streetwear aesthetic with classical details found in Italian art and...

This is the 87th instalment in a biweekly series profiling major Hong Kong pop culture figures of recent decades. For Hong Kong’s culture enthusiasts, sitting just a few seats away from Anthony Wong Yiu-ming at an art-house film screening or standing steps from him at an underground gig has long been a serendipitous staple of the city’s arts scene. He is legendary for his ubiquitous presence as an ordinary spectator. Beyond his genuine enthusiasm as a fellow audience member, the 64-year-old...
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Andrei Iosivas and his rumoured girlfriend, influencer Gia Duddy, were recently involved in a heated exchange with an online troll under one of her Instagram posts where she shared a snap of herself attending a Bengals game at Paycor Stadium. The online exchange reportedly started after a user, whose Instagram username is @jason_walker24, seemingly made a dig at Iosivas’ NFL career. The commenter further attacked Duddy by mentioning her previous relationship...
